"Painting this was extremely cathartic," Deanna Schuerbeke says of Finally. She chose her favorite colors — teal, orange, gold — and drew from raw energy, describing the result as "a big and welcoming storm — the kind of relief that only comes after something builds and arrives." Of all the paintings in her Santa Fe series, this is the one that exhales. You feel it the moment you look at it.

The palette is deliberately limited — three colors, bold and unambiguous, working together without complication. Teal rolls and sweeps across the canvas in broad, saturated strokes, dense and full-bodied at the top and center, running in thin drips toward the bottom edge as the energy spends itself, the residual showers after the storm has passed. Against it, pure white opens space — not absence but relief, the canvas breathing where the color releases it. And then the gold and orange arrive — not breaking through the teal from behind like light through clouds, but laid on top, applied afterwards. This is the formal detail that unlocks the painting entirely: the sunshine did not precede the storm. It came after. The warmth was not there waiting — it was earned.

Finally is exactly what its title says. Not the anticipation of something, not the endurance of something, but the arrival on the other side of it — the moment when the work is done, the storm has cleared, and what remains is warmth, color, and the deep, uncomplicated satisfaction of having come through. The satisfied sigh. The self-pat on the back. The painting that knows it has earned its name.
