The bicycle wheel at the center of Rainbow Vector is rendered with enough precision that you could count the spokes — and yet the painting refuses to be about engineering. Morgan Johnson's Fractionalist overlay lays a second geometry directly over the first: the white grid lines of his signature style radiate outward from the hub in almost the same directions as the spokes themselves, as if the wheel's spin has fractured the space around it into something prismatic and alive. The dark, near-black background pushes the wheel forward, and within the cells of the Fractionalist plane, warm gold, peach, and flashes of red catch the light like sun through stained glass — or like a summer afternoon seen through a spinning wheel. From the Home Series, Johnson describes the bicycle ride as "an extension from home," and this painting understands that precisely: it is about departure and return, about the warm light that trails behind you, about motion that always has a center it radiates from.
