Description:
A line of small shorebirds moves steadily across this piece, one after another, through a marsh that glows in radiant greens and golds beneath a deep blue sky. There's something almost processional about the way Pam Haunschild arranges them — strung out in single file, heads down, each one following the bird ahead with quiet, unhurried purpose. "I wanted to capture the birds on a journey — possibly a spiritual journey or pilgrimage — through a splashy, radiant marsh," she says, and the painting holds that idea loosely enough to let it mean what it needs to. A migration. A ritual. A small, daily act of moving forward together. The marsh itself does most of the emotional work — luminous, layered, alive with color in a way that makes the birds' quiet journey feel like it's passing through something sacred.
