Collection: Deanna Schuerbeke

Deanna Schuerbeke paints what most of us feel but can't quite say. Her large-scale expressive abstracts — acrylic and oil on canvas, often at fifty or sixty inches — don't ask you to identify a subject or decode a system. They ask you to recognize something. A feeling you've had. A moment you know exactly and have never found the right words for. The experience of standing in front of one of her paintings and thinking: yes. That's it. That's exactly what that feels like.

Schuerbeke works from her studio at NW Marine Artworks in Portland, Oregon, drawing on memories of landscape, weather, and the full emotional range of a life consciously rebuilt. She attended residencies in France and New Mexico, has exhibited throughout the Portland area — including a Second Place award at the Oregon Art Center's juried exhibition Leaning into Abstraction — and her work is held in private collections across the country and abroad. Every painting in this collection comes with the story behind it. We suggest reading that story. Then looking again.
